| Croatia is going through active processes of (re)formation of national identity by overcoming the Yugoslav past and transforming the Homeland War (1991-1995) into the founding myth. An integral component of these processes is the creation of a pantheon of national heroes. Using the example of General Ante Gotovina, the author shows how historical figures can turn into a symbol that embodies the nation as a whole. |
