It is known that V.G. Vasilevsky played a decisive role in the scientific and administrative career of his talented student, the future academician S.F. Platonov. It was he who promoted his appointment to the department of the ill E.E. Zamyslovsky, to the Scientific Committee of the MNE. A bright page of their fruitful cooperation was the 5-year period from 1890 to 1895 in the editorial office of the "Journal of the Ministry of Public Education". Appointed to the editorial position, V.G. Vasilevsky invited S.F. Platonov as his assistant. A huge epistolary layer, which came out from the pen ofV.G. Vasilevsky and addressed to him, allows us to analyze the forms of their communication, methods of working with manuscripts, making decisions on the formation of numbers. Of historiographical interest are the judgments about the articles submitted to the editorial office. The letters allow us to judge the responsibilities and workload of S.F. Platonov, his role in the functioning of the editorial office, the degree of participation in the systematization, editing and publication of issues of the journal. In addition, these materials help to form ideas about the forms of communication, trusting relationships that have developed between a student and a teacher.
