The purpose of the scientific article - to determine the significance and functions of prevention of violations of mandatory requirements in the implementation of state control (supervision). In the context of the reform of control and supervisory activities, an attempt has been made to systematize the main provisions concerning the issues of functional affiliation of the prevention of violations of mandatory requirements in the system of state control (supervision). Based on a review of theoretical provisions, the author notes that the prevention of violations of mandatory requirements is recognized as a form of state control (supervision). When implementing prevention, it is worth paying attention to its informational component, since it allows achieving one of the tasks of applying preventive practices in the current activities of control and supervisory authorities - taking responsibility for the chosen form of behavior by a controlled entity.
