The problem of adverbial transposition of non-prepositional forms of instrumental case into the class of adverbs is investigated. The relevance of the work is due to the lack of knowledge of the structure and patterns of functioning of the mechanism of stepwise transposition of language units in the grammatical structure of the Russian language. The aim of the work is to determine the stages and limits of the transposition of substantive word forms into the class of adverbs. Using the method of oppositional analysis, it has been established that the adverbial transposition of the studied substantive word forms is explicated in typical contexts in three stages, fixing the zones of nuclear nouns (the first stage), peripheral nouns (the second stage) and nuclear adverbs (the third stage) respectively. The zones of hybrid formations and peripheral adverbs are bypassed by these word forms in the semantic-grammatical development, immediately transforming into nuclear adverbs. The limit of adverbialization of the word forms "time" and "times" are adverbs that have gone beyond the semantic zone of the noun "time". The formation of these adverbs is associated with the functional-semantic type of adverbial transposition of nouns, accompanied by a violation of the semantic identity of the original lexeme and the formation of lexico-grammatical homonyms. The results of the study can be used in the further development of the problems of transpositional grammar of the Russian language, as well as in the practice of teaching Russian grammar in higher and secondary schools.
