The article is devoted to the history of the development of spiritual education of Nizhny Novgorod eparchy under bishop Veniamin (Putsek-Grigorovich) in 1748-1753. The study is based on a set of documents from the funds of the Central Archive of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, first introduced into scientific circulation. It shows the measures taken by the bishop to find sources for the maintenance of spiritual schools of the eparchy. The paper concludes that the material and financial situation of the seminary in Nizhny Novgorod in the mentioned chronological period has seriously improved. Measures to improve the educational level of the parish clergy are traced. For the first time on a permanent basis began training in the seminary children «newly baptized».
