The article analyzes the role of the Soviet Union in the establishment and development of the coal industry of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 1976-1985 on the basis of the materials introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The main directions and forms of cooperation are considered, the reasons of difficulties in its realization are revealeFol. The author concludes that during the period under study coal industry facilities were built and reconstructed, which were of strategic importance for ensuring the fuel and energy security of Vietnam. In the first half of the 1980s, the enterprises of the extractive industry of the SRV, built or reconstructed with the technical assistance of the USSR, produced more than 80% of the total coal production in the country. At the same time, a set of problems that arose in the process of realization of the parties' plans did not allow to fully disclose the potential of Soviet assistance, which led to the emergence of a shortage of energy resources in the SRV.
