The purpose of the work is to determine the essence and content of the concept of “investigative documents” from the point of view of the legislation of the Russian Federation, the science of criminal procedure law and law enforcement practice. The author comes to the conclusion that the concept of “investigative documents” does not have sufficient legislative regulation, and also that in the science of criminal procedural law, due attention is not paid to understanding its essence and content. Based on the research materials, the author's definitions of the concept under consideration are proposed.
