| The images of the main characters of Nabokov's novels «The Defense» and «Despair» are compared, with the focus on the motifs that help to create the image of a creative individual in the novel. Based on this comparison, it can be concluded that such motifs include creation of works of art, double identity, memory, look, and destiny. |
