The paper considers some issues of interpersonal relations that are determined by conscious reciprocal manipulation
of the speaker and the addressee in the process of speech communication. Manipulation is considered as the
means that expresses basic communicative intentions of the speaker. The paper suggests a number of ways of using
speech as manipulative means directed at the addressee, which are employed by the speaker to create in the listener’s
mind certain concepts about the world, people and objects.
