The author presents the results of a comparative study of the ceremony of singing special songs to newly-married couples (the ceremony is also known as «vyunishnik») with other post-wedding ceremonies in the Nizhni Novgorod region. The aim of the comparison was: to determine the main points in the folk calendar to which the ceremonial actions directed at newly-married couples are dated; to reveal functional and formal specificity of «vyunishnik» in comparison with other post-wedding customs and rites; to find out whether the geographic areas of existing post-wedding customs and rites associated with various folk calendar points (Pancake week, Easter, Peter's day) coincide.
