Abstract
One of Nabokov's early stories, «The Venetian», is investigated as an example of realization of established images, themes, motives in the writings of this author. The themes of the double-world, creation, art as an illusion are present in the story along with the motives of entering a picture, contraposition of life and a work of art, creating artwork. The pairs of contrasting motives: eyesight - blindness, an original - a copy are also considered. All these motives play certain role in creating the images of this story's characters.
