Abstract
The article presents for the first time a comparative analysis of Alfred Tennyson's monodrama «Maud» (1855) and its Russian translation made by A.M.Fedorov («Magdalina (Maud)», 1895). The authors note the translator's desire to preserve fully the atmosphere of Tennyson's monodrama, to convey not only the plot, but also the variety of literary details used by the writer and emotional variations. At the same time, the peculiarities of Fedorov's creative manner, his outlook on the surrounding world and his views on a person's place in it, his inclination to the themes of nature, love, human soul, which later became most significant in the original creative work of the Russian poet and translator, are reflected in the interpretation.
