The paper focuses on the structure of a poetic image. The author treats the image as a consequence of metaphorical and synecdochical relations between parts of image structure (exterior form, inner form, meaning). The main subject of analysis when studying the image are the relations between the exterior and inner form. Basing on the knowledge about the image structure, the author comes to the conclusion that literary-artistic landscape is the result of metaphorical connections within its own structure. Elements of landscape are characterized, principles of their interaction are stated, the question when «portrayal of open-ended space» becomes a token with respect to the image of the character finds its answer. The author proposes a model based on A.A. Potebnya's «formula» of poetic work where the landscape structure implements the role of an element of the literary character's image. In conclusion, an algorithm is presented for the analysis of a literary-artistic landscape.
