Abstract
The best-known work of the modern Czech writer Jiri Kratochvil (born in 1940), «The Bear Novel» (1990) is considered. A number of features are pointed out that make it possible to refer this book to the literature of the «elite» type. It is shown how in Kratochvil's novel some of the most prominent changes in the Czech literature of the post-socialist period are manifested, namely, the penetration of post-modernist philosophy and aesthetics into Czech literature.
