Abstract
We describe the results of the investigation of the influence of the structure and phase composition parameters on the physico-mechanical and tribological properties of alumina-based ceramics fabricated by spark plasma sintering. Composite structure formation reinforced with ?-SiC whiskers has been shown to increase wear resistance of Al 2O 3 ceramics. A qualitative explanation is proposed of the influence of small particles (additives) and reinforcing whiskers on the wear resistance of Al 2O 3 ceramics.
