The great similarity in the chromosome number and morphology is known for many representatives of water and land ecobiomorph Veronica L. from the section Beccabunga . At the same time considerable distinctions have been described in the natural habitats and vital forms . In this work the primary structure of the 18S rRNA gene in representatives of V. anagallis-aquatica L., V. а nagalloides and V. tenuis has been defined using herbarium and a live material. On the basis of the comparative analysis of nucleotide sequences, an assumption has been made about a hybrid origin of V. tenuis and V. а nagalloides annuals from perennials . A comparison has also been made of two methods of DNA extraction as dependent on the preservation quality of the material studied.
