In experimental chronic heart failure beta-adrenoblockers had a more balanced effect on the neurohormonal systems as compared with the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. The efficacy of beta-adrenoblockers without intrinsic sympathomimetic activity was higher than that of pindolol, whereas lipophilic angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors were superior to the hydrophilic lisinopril. Combined treatment had an advantage over monotherapy in reducing sympathoadrenal activity only. |
