Recently, there has been great interest in materials having nonstandard reactions to various kinds of deformation. Thus, there are materials that, being expended in length, increase in transverse dimensions. In foreign literature, such materials are called Auxetic. Anomalous behavior is associated with the altered internal structure of the material that gives rise to the properties such as anisotropy, the absence of central symmetry, the appearance of rotational degrees of freedom, etc. From the point of view of the theory of elasticity, such non-standard behavior of materials is associated with negative Poisson's ratio. The aim of this paper is to study the effect of a negative Poisson's ratio on the propagation of longitudinal waves in rods.
