Analysis of processes of brittle and elastic-plastic fracture boils down to the theory of nonlinear elastic body and is based on /-integral and 5^-theory (crack opening displacement) in statement. It ignores the key parameter that distinguishes the theory of elasticity from the theory of plasticity. It is the dissipation of mechanical work of internal forces. This parameter substantially influences crack initiation and propagation. The alternative approach is suggested for the analysis of the vicinity of the localization zone of plastic strains on the basis of plasticity theory. This approach allows estimating dissipative processes that result in the crack initiation and propagation.
