The article analyzes one of the last campaigns of the Social war - the siege of Phthiotic Thebes by the Macedonian King Philip V. The description of Polybius does not give a clear picture of the progress of this campaign. The author believes that the silence of the Achaean historian can be explained by his reluctance to focus the readers' attention on the successes of the Macedonian King, or on the successful resistance of the Aetolians. We can learn some details of this siege from the epigram in honor of Antigen. From the comparison of the text by Polybius and the epigram, it becomes clear, that there was an Aetolian garrison in Thebes, the siege of the city was very difficult, and that the Aetolians made unexpected attacks.
