This article examines some features of the description made by Giacomo Soranzo (1518-1599), the Venetian ambassador to France in 1554-1558. He described the members of the royal family and high-ranking persons at the court of the French King Henry II (1547-1559). The author of the article comes to the conclusion that the Venetian diplomat, who had the professional power of observation, provided real characteristics of the key personalities at the French court. |
