In this article, the objective basis of legal consciousness is understood as the legal actuality - a purposeful meaningful practical activity, which expresses the essence of the law and forms the entirety of society's legal phenomena. We draw a distinction between legal actuality and legal reality as a sphere of immediate being of legal phenomena. The contradictions in this sphere are the source for producing the legal consciousness. We also consider the features of professional legal consciousness that define its special role among other types of legal consciousness.
