This paper examines the ideas of national unity expressed in the works of Russian historian and political essayist M.P. Pogodin. The aim of this research is to analyze the scholar's historical and journalistic works in order to determine his standpoint in relation to issues of state unity and counteraction to centrifugal tendencies in Russian history and in the Russian Empire of Pogodin's times. For this purpose, we use historical and comparative research methods, systems analysis, and context-based analysis of the text. As a result of our research, it can be concluded that M.P. Pogodin in his different works, regardless of their genre and purpose, consistently advocated for state unity of Russia.
