In this article, we examine personal relations between Ivan Aksakov and Alexander Kireev, the recognized leaders of the «middle» and late Slavophilism. The question of the time of their acquaintance is discussed. Special at- tention is given to Aksakov's influence on young Kireev who turned to the Slavophil doctrine in 1860s. The stages of the further rapprochement between the two thinkers in the years of «Shuvalovshchina», Balkan Crisis, Russo-Turkish war and the revolutionary terror at the end of Alexander II's rule, as well as the differences between them in the era of «Rus» (1880-1886) are also analyzed. Kireev's constant attempts to synthesize the teachings of Ivan Aksakov and Mikhail Katkov are considered, along with the criticism of such attempts on the part of his right-wing companions.
