Starting from 2010, mediation as a special conciliation procedure with the participation of a mediator has been provided in the legislation of the Russian Federation. However, mediation is almost never used to resolve labor con- flicts in Russia. For comparison we refer to the experience of the use of mediation in the settlement of labor disputes in France, where mediation has been applied since the mid-twentieth century, and at the end of the century this was en- shrined in law. The possibility of using mediation in labor disputes and prospects for the future use of mediation in this area in Russia and in France are discussed.
