The article examines the resocialization of convicts in penal institutions. The author analyzes the concept of resocialization and reflects on how resocialization is implemented in correctional institutions of the penal correction system. The penitentiary stage of the resocialization of convicts is considered. The author assumes that this process should begin from the moment of the convicted person's arrival in a correctional institution, and it should continue during the whole term of serving the punishment. At the same time, the regime, educational work, socially useful labor and education should be used in a comprehensive manner. The process of resocialization should not stop after the release of the convict from the penal institution. Currently, post-penitentiary resocialization of convicts who have been released from places of deprivation of liberty is practically not implemented in the domestic penitentiary system. Therefore, the author raises the question of the need to create a state program of post-penitentiary support for convicts after their release and to enshrine the concept of resocialization in the penal code.
