Abstract
This article focuses on contrastive description of the Chechen and Russian languages, which have a very different structure. Despite the fact that these languages are far apart from each other genetically, in functional terms they can show some common features. Contrastive research makes a significant contribution not only to the knowledge of a foreign language, but also to a deeper study of one's native language. As is known, the theoretical study of the Chechen language was started relatively recently and there is no universally recognized unanimity of views among the researchers of the Vainakh languages on the functional characteristics with respect to various grammatical structures in this language. In our opinion, comparative studies allow us to find in the Chechen language some important details that might escape the researcher's attention in the monolingual description. Therefore, in this article, we adhere to the method of functional and systemic description of comparable subsystems in both languages on the basis of unity of form and content. We consider the so-called Chechen form of the «perfective» aspect, which often appears in the text in the sense of reaching the limit of action. A specific example shows the similarity and difference of the grammatical forms being compared. In most cases, Chechen and Russian forms show a significant similarity in functional terms, which suggests their equivalence. This article can give an impetus to further contrastive studies of the Chechen language.
