The work is concerned with the determination and analysis of static and dynamic aerodynamic characteristics of spherically blunted cones with large semi-vertex angles. Such or analogous shape is inherent to some space vehicles descending in planet atmospheres, for example, the «Phobos-Grunt» descent vehicle (DV). The examined DV has a specified configuration with the radius of spherical bluntness 0.25D, semi-vertex angle ? = 45°, and the length of 0.436 D. Results of experimental and numerical simulation of static and dynamic aerodynamic characteristics are compared. It is shown that the behaviour of these characteristics is determined mainly by geometry of the nose surface; a method is introduced for the numerical calculation of these characteristics in the entire required range of flight velocities.
