Abstract
A linear stability analysis is used for a straight liquid bridge of H/R = 1 aspect ratio to determine critical Marangoni number and the frequency for Prandtl numbers from 4 to 200. It has been determined that the change of critical azimuthal wave number occurred for Prandtl number equal to 28. An approximation of a neutral curve for a high Prandtl number is compared to the experimental one. The neutral curve of a thrermocapillary flow for the spatial experiment «MEIS-2» (Japan, 2009) for 5 cSt silicone oil (the Prandtl number equals 68) is compared to the results of linear stability analysis. The causes of divergence for small aspect ratios are discussed.
