The stability of mechanical equilibrium in a plane layer of multicomponent fluid heated from above/below in the gravity field is investigated. The cross-diffusion and Soret effect are taken into account. The theorems, which generalize the exchange of stability principle to the case of multicomponent mixture with Soret effect, are proved. The neutral curves and stability maps are constructed in the parameter space of ternary fluids. Comparison between results for different types of boundary conditions is performed.
