| Рассматриваются различия между способами идентификации и самоидентификации граждан Ахейского союза. Граждане полисов, вошедших в союз в III-II вв. до н.э., обычно в литературной традиции и в эпиграфике именуются «ахейцами», однако это название отражает скорее принадлежность их родных городов к федерации, а не этническую идентификацию. Ряд признаков указывает на то, что «ахейцы» ощущали себя прежде всего гражданами родного полиса, а в этническом отношении продолжали считать себя «аркадянами» или «дорийцами»; в надписях обозначение «ахеец из такого-то города» относится главным образом к выходцам из коренной Ахайи. Ахейский союз представлял собой главным образом военно-политическое сообщество, и «ахейцы» именуются в источниках таким образом лишь постольку, поскольку обладали федеральным гражданством. |
