| Рассматриваются упоминания о Персидском царстве времен Ахеменидов в римской литературе. Ответ на вопросы о том, что знали римляне об Ахеменидской Персии и как они представляли себе персов от Кира до Дария III, в каких контекстах и для каких целей упоминались соответствующие персонажи и примеры, обнаруживает характерные стереотипы восприятия одного народа другим и помогает выявить специфику римской культурно-исторической памяти, которая в значительной степени формировалась информацией, топосами и образами, заимствованными у греков. По большей части эти топосы и анекдоты (о персидской роскоши и богатстве, о надменности персидских царей, их грандиозных сооружениях и т.д.) присутствуют в морализаторском или риторическом контекстах, служат дидактическими примерами и зачастую далеки от исторической достоверности. Все эти представления и стереотипы, благодаря риторическому образованию и популярной моральной философии, стали общими символами и наследием греческой и римской культурной и исторической памяти, но в некоторых отношениях они воспринимались по-разному. Образы Ахеменидской Персии как образы «Иного» приобрели в римской исторической памяти вневременной характер, легко переносились на современных врагов Рима в лице Парфии и Сасанидской Персии и использовались римлянами как средство конструирования их собственной идентичности через оппозицию «Запад - Восток» и для идеологического оправдания их противостояния с могущественными иранскими державами. |
