The paper looks at the content of the newspaper Russkoye Slovo («The Russian Word») and the articles of Ilya Trotsky, its correspondent in Berlin, published in 1906-1913, in terms of perception of Russia, the Russians and Russian culture in Germany. This analysis provides an insight into historical, cultural and political relations between Germany and Russia over this period. Cultural/historical and comparative methods are used to achieve the objective set in the paper. Based on these methods, the author concludes that Russia was diversely represented in Germany but deep-rooted stereotypes (both positive and negative) continued to dominate in the perception of Russia and the Russians.
