This article examines the phenomenon of Russian philosophical poetry of the 19th century. Its principles at the stage of formation and their reflection in the lyrics of the leading poet-philosopher of the last quarter of the nineteenth century V.S. Solovyov are considered. After analyzing the literary material, the author comes to some conclusions: firstly, philosophical lyrical poetry is fundamentally different from philosophizing lyrical poetry (philosophical in a strict sense); secondly, the literary phenomenon of philosophical lyrics was finalized in the Russian literature of the 1820s-1830s and was associated with the poetic work of Lyubomudry, thirdly, the works of the poet-philosopher F.I. Tyutchev and the poet-philosopher V.S. Solovyov became vivid examples of philosophizing in poetry, and, finally, the work of the latter author, who largely expanded the genre and thematic range of his predecessors’ lyrics, marked the transition between the metaphysical reflections in the poetry of the 19th and the 20th centuries. The research was based on the use of comparative-historical and typological methods.
