Based on the material of Shuya, we examine the relationship between judicial and administrative powers of the local magistrate and the voevoda in relation to the 17th-century townspeople community in Russia. It is concluded that the town administration tried to sideline the local magistrate from court proceedings on its territory, since the voevoda was much more closely connected with the local community economically and politically. |
