The attitude to the police that has been formed in the Russian public consciousness is rather complex and contradictory, On the one hand, it is characterized by the awareness of the social importance of law enforcement activities, On the other hand, many people exhibit negativism and distrust, which is expressed in citizens' actual behavior through legal nihilism and a high level of administrative delinquency. Overcoming the negative image of police officers should be supported by an evidence-based image strategy. The key component of this strategy is to improve the professionalism of law enforcement officers. The authors present the results of a comparative analysis of various aspects of the Russian police image. The analysis is based on the most significant domestic sociological and psychological studies that reflect the problems of forming the image of the police/militia during the period 2004 through 2016. Strategic priorities for the image policy of the Russian police are substantiated, based on the resources for the enhancement of society's legal integration and, as a consequence, the reduction of delinquency.
