The aim of the article is to analyse some peculiarities of reading Latin authors in linguistic universities. The analysis is based on the empirical method including observation and generalisation. The author concludes that it is important not only to analyse grammatical structures of a text or give a historical and cultural comment on events described in it but also to make a discursive analysis of the text, to read it between the lines, to see the author’s deep intentions, to reveal the author’s interpretational programme with the help of which readers can create a semantic image of the text.
