We present the results of our research into the activities of the Nizhni Novgorod Chamber of State Property aimed to maintain and develop roads and waterways in the territory of the Nizhni Novgorod province during the period from 1840 to 1860. It is revealed that in the framework of its authority Nizhni Novgorod Chamber of State Property performed functions for the construction, development of infrastructure and repair of roads. The management of the waterways was aimed at the development of trade in timber and timber - based forest products. Based on the materials of the study, it is concluded that the management of communication routes on the part of the Nizhni Novgorod Chamber of State Property was carried out primarily to address its departmental needs.
