The purpose of the article is to analyze some aspects of religious and political doctrines of the two British scholars, translators of the Bible into English - J. Wycliffe (1320-1384) and W. Tyndale (1494-1536). By using the method of textual analysis, the author shows that the thinkers who belonged to different historical epochs gave the same interpretation of some biblical categories, in particular, such as «the church» and «the Holy Scripture». The article notes the influence of John Wycliffe on the formation of W. Tyndale's worldview and on the development of his religious and political doctrines. The author also draws attention to the fact that all the works of both English scholars were focused on the development of a correct approach to the interpretation of the Holy Scripture. Both thinkers opposed four-fold interpretation of every word of the Bible and all kinds of scholastic methods in the study of God's Word.
