The article discusses mythopoetics of the novel «Blindness» (1931-1932) by the Austrian writer and Nobel Prize laureate Elias Canetti (1905-1994). The purpose of the article is to trace the transformation of biblical motifs in Canetti’s novel «Blindness». Methodological guidelines of the author are based on the traditional historical and cultural approach to literature which combines experiences of classical literary criticism, both domestic and foreign. The use of intertextual and intermedial methods of analysis has also proved to be productive by making it possible to trace the intertextual interactions, interaction of literature and fine arts, to reveal the role of precedential text, which in its turn contributed to understanding the mechanism of reception of the Bible in the novel, and finally to reveal elements of the transformation of biblical motifs and the author’s mythmaking.
