The author introduces into scientific circulation some new archival sources from the history of the Gorky State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (now the Nizhni Novgorod State Linguistic University) of the 1937-1953 period. The staff of the Institute was affected by the repressions, though they were not large-scale. The arrests of the Institute’s staff members were not coordinated by the security services within any particular «campaigns», rather, they were «pinpointed» at some individuals. Nevertheless, the newly-established Institute (it became an independent institution in 1937) has suffered damage from repressive policies.
