In this article, we justify the need to strengthen the humanitarian component of the Latin course when training pharmacy students. The actualization of the humanistic function is closely connected with the problem of filling the instructional literature with real humanitarian content aimed at the development of general cultural and general professional competencies of future specialists and at raising their general and professional culture. An attempt at this approach has been made in a new study guide in the Latin language for students of the pharmaceutical profile, where the humanitarian component is presented in the form of original philological essays. Such essays include culturological and linguistic «digressions» that reveal the interrelation of ancient and modern languages, the etymology of Latinisms, and the meanings of famous Latin phrases. Conventional and well-known abbreviations are also explained. Such information not only enlivens the material, but also gives students an impetus to self-development.
