The article presents some facts from the biography and scientific work of S.I. Arkhangelsky (1882-1958), a graduate of the Faculty of History and Philology of the Imperial Moscow University, who became a prominent medievalist and historian of England, and Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The influence of representatives of the «Russian school» of French and English social history on the development of S.I. Arkhangelsky’s professional views is shown. Conclusions are presented regarding the factors that influenced Arkhangelsky’s choice of the English Revolution of the 17th century as a topic for his research. The continuity of research methods that Arkhangelsky used in his scientific work is discussed.
