Abstract
The paper compares the aspectual/temporal meanings of English and Russian verbs from the point of view of language education and cultural linguistics. The peculiarities of the modal and temporal semantics of the grammatical tense form in the English and Russian languages are studied, including the cases with the grammatical transposition. The theoretical theses are illustrated by speech examples which prove the argument about the distinction between real time and language tense, about asymmetrical organization of the morphological tense in the languages under study. It is concluded that comparative analysis carried out for linguodidactic purposes should combine functional, semasiological and onomasiological aspects of the verb forms, i.e. to consider not only usual but also contextual correlations of the aspectual/temporal and modal/temporal meanings.
