The article addresses the issues of preparing for publishing the edition of B.A. Sadovskoi's collected works that would meet modern requirements. The aim is to highlight the timeliness and the relevance of this publishing project and to define its principles. The author proves the importance of including in the collected edition the works by Sadovskoi that duly reflect the main avenues of the author's creative search and provide a relevant detailed reference tool. The article takes note of the fact that one of its primary goals is to publish the writer's literary criticism by systematizing already known texts as well as finding new ones and introducing them to readers and academia. For the first time, Sadovskoi's archived article «Two Chancellors» (about A.M. Gorchakov and O. Bismarck) is published with detailed footnotes, and its metatextual significance is demonstrated. In this article, biographic and cultural-historical methods were used.
