The article analyzes the history of triangular relationship between the USA, the USSR and China in the years of d?tente (1968-1973). The authors consider the split in the relations between the Soviet Union and China and the American vision of their confrontation. The article deals with the restoration of US-China relations, the key positions that prompted them to embark on such policy, and the goals pursued by both sides. Particular attention is paid to the study of the Chinese factor in Soviet-American relations as a special tool of the Nixon administration's pressure on Moscow's policy, the flexibility and pliability of the Soviet side. The results of the American policy of double rapprochement with the USSR and the PRC are highlighted.
