The article deals with the perception of Old Norse literature in modern Icelandic fiction, and the novel «The Head Ransom» (2005) by ?lafur Gunnarsson is taken as an example of it. The plot of the novel is formed mainly by tht episode in «The Saga of Egil», where the composing of the drapa «The Head Ransom» is described, and it is regarded as a universal plot scheme. The specific features of reception of the sagas in this novel are considered in the broad contrext of the Icelandic literature of the 1990-2010’s.
