The object of research in this article is the recently discovered and published graffito at the Transfiguration Cathedral in Pereslavl-Zalessky. Its text contains the remembrance of Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky and anathema to his murderers. The origin of the inscription, its meaning and purpose are not entirely obvious and need further understanding. The aim of this article is to use the methods of epigraphy and source study to identify the most significant problems that arise when interpreting the content of the inscription and to determine the prospects for its use as a historical source. The article also raises the question of a possible protograph of the text of graffito and suggests another hypothesis of the possible dating of the inscription and its connection with certain political events of the history of the formation of the Grand Duke's power in Northeast Russia under the heirs of Andrei Bogolyubsky.
