The article analyzes the current changes in the law on oversight activities that extend and clarify the powers of the Federal service on supervision in transport (Rostransnadzor) concerning weight and dimensions control of vehicles. According to the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 700 dated July 20, 2016 «On amending and recognizing invalid some acts of the Government of the Russian Federation», the Rules of the Road were supplemented by some rules entitling the employees of Rostransnadzor to stop vehicles at weight and dimensions control points and to demand from the drivers a number of documents for checking. The author identifies the main problems related to the implementation of these powers by Rostransnadzor inspectors, and gives some proposals to address these problems by further improving the legislation.
