We consider the reception of Pugachev's image in the works of Russian avant-garde poets of the early 20th century. The object of the research are poetic texts by N. Aseev, V. Khlebnikov and V. Kamensky's poem. The aim of this work was to identify the peculiarities of the image of Emelyan Pugachev in the literary texts of the early twentieth century. The methodology used for the analysis of specific texts is based on the cultural-historical, structural-typological, comparative and integrated approaches. The study shows that the image of Pugachev since the 19th century was firmly embedded in archetypal patterns not only in the folklore works (which was obvious), but also in the texts of fiction. It is concluded that the events that took place in Russia in the early 20th century contributed to the inclusion of Pugachev's image in the ideological paradigm with the intention to show the continuity of the revolutionary process in the depths of the Russian Empire and to justify the horrors of the civil war.
